Tuesday Tootsies

Tuesday Tootsies: "

I saw this LOLz, and it got me to thinking about movie shoes. I don’t think there are any more famous movie shoes than the ruby slippers or the glass ones. I tried to do a search. Of course, got tons of hits for those, but managed to find a few others too. :)

image

These might be the original ruby slippers, or a reproduction of them.

image

And if Dorothy ever grew up and wanted to become a hooker, she would wear these. ;)

image

If Cinderella wanted to do some pole dancing for the prince, she’d wear these.

image

Can you believe it? I found these, which are supposed to be reproductions of the futuristic shoes Marty McFly wore in Back to the Future.

image

Now Pebbles from the Flintstones is all grown up and ready to rock.

image

These are supposed to be the shoes that the Queen of Hearts wears in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. If I was the Queen of Hearts I’d probably want to wear these too. :D

image

How about you? Can you think of any shoes you’ve seen in movies that really struck you in some way?

Monday Mischief

Monday Mischief: "

imageHa! Fooled ya! You thought I was going to say mayhem, didn’t you?! Figured I’d shake things up a bit, try not to be so predictable. ;)

I think my husband stole a bit of my thunder and told you a bit about some of our movie watching experiences this weekend. I liked watching the commentary for Doubt, but not the one for Star Trek. While I liked the Star Trek movie – and I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt despite being sort of a Trekker – the commentary left me rolling my eyes. I swear, they sounded like a bunch of college-aged buffoons. Couldn’t they have even tried to sound like professionals? *sigh*

One thing I did this weekend, was watch The Passion of The Christ. I’ve never seen it and it’s one of those, “one of these days” kind of movies. I was in the “P” section … see, I pick a letter because trying to sort through the whole movie section at the library is a major pain, so I picked a letter and focused on that. I happened on “P,” so I got Passion, Premonition, and Painted House. (Someone want to suggest a letter for next time I go to the library? And please hold yourself back from shouting out “X!” or “Z!” because finding a movie that starts with one of those would be almost impossible. WIGSF, I’m lookin’ at you!) ANYway, I watched Passion, and … well … a few things I was a bit disappointed with. I understand Gibson took some creative license with the movie, but you can’t brag about “being true to the Scriptures” and then take some creative license. There’s no reference to Lucifer being in the Garden with Christ before the Crucifixion. So, he lost me there. Other aspects were compelling, although his Catholicism really came through, I thought.

At one point, my daughter, who’d curled up to watch it with me, asked me why they were being so mean to Jesus. Well. How to answer in such a way that a child can understand, without going into a theological discussion on the nature of sin and the necessity of Christ’s death, and you get the idea. I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts and she answered her own question and said, “I think they were evil, that’s why they were so mean to Him.” You know baby girl, that sums it up pretty well. :) Out of the mouths of babes.

Painted House was pretty good. It’s the one based on a Grisham novel, but it’s not lawyerly at all. It’s set in rural Arkansas during the depression. It was more literary than genre, but it was pretty good for not having a plot. Lots of interesting vignettes, likeable characters, some less than. Entertainment.

And I already told you about Premonition last week.

Other than that, I just did some housework over the weekend and how exciting is that? You don’t really want to hear how I’m trying to re-organize my cabinets, do you? Yeah, that’s what I thought. ;)

So, what did you do over the weekend? Anything fun and exciting so I can live vicariously through you?

Friday Fragments

Friday Fragments: "

Feathers

I hate Tyson. You remember a few weeks ago, when I railed against Walmart for switching from Perdue chicken to Tyson, don’t you? Of course you do, my faithful friends.

So I’ve been left with no other choice but to get the stupid Tyson chicken. That does not make Falcon a happy camper, and I can feel the resentment rise up in me every time I have to open up a package and clean one for dinner.

Tonight I was livid. Guess what I found on my chicken? Yep, feathers. All over the wings and near the rump. Feathers! Oh boy, I was yelling!

Walmart is going to hear about this, and so is Perdue. It always pays to contact the competition. They like you better. It gives them fodder against their competition. So if you see any commercials in the next few months about Perdue chickens being feather-free and ready to cook, you’ll know it was because of me. :)

Funerals

imageI was on the phone with a friend of mine, and decided to make a pot of decaf. I turned it on and kept talking, and a few minutes later went to get a cup of coffee. No coffee. I pushed the button again. Nothing. I checked the water – could I have been so distracted by talking that I forgot the water? No, the chamber was full. I went to my husband. “The coffee maker won’t work.”
“Did you turn it on?”

Oh, he earns those smacks!

“Yes, I turned it on! And before you make yet another smart ass remark, yes, I put water in it. It’s not working and I think it’s broken.”

So he went to inspect and a few minutes later made the pronouncement that the pump was broken.

“This is serious!” he said. “Get the kids dressed! We have to go. There is no way I’m getting up in the morning and NOT having a cup of coffee.”

When you only have one drug left to you, you cherish it like a baby.

So, off we went to Walmart to pick up another coffee maker. The old one lasted over 5 years – I can’t remember if we got it in 04 or 05, but regardless, it’s lasted pretty long in coffee maker years. We had a small service before taking it out to the dumpster, in appreciation for it’s years of faithful service.

Funny

Heaven

A woman died and arrived at the Gates of Heaven.

While she was waiting for Christ to greet her, she peeked through the gates. She saw a beautiful banquet table. Sitting all around were her parents and all the other people she had loved and who had died before her. They saw her and began calling greetings to her.

"Hello – How are you! We’ve been waiting for you! Good to see you."

When Christ came by, the woman said to him, "This is such a wonderful place! How do I get in?"

"I see here that it says here that you have accepted my gift of salvation but my Father said to make sure you also have to spell a word," he told her.

"Which word?" the woman asked.

"Love."

The woman correctly spelled ‘Love’, and Christ welcomed her into Heaven.

About a year later, Christ came to the woman and asked her to watch the Gates of Heaven for him for a short time and let him know if anyone arrived.

While the woman was guarding the Gates of Heaven, her husband arrived.

I’m surprised to see you," the woman said. "How have you been?"

"Oh, I’ve been doing pretty well since you died," her husband told her "I married the beautiful young nurse who took care of you while you were ill. And then I won the multi-state lottery. I sold the little house you and I lived in and bought a huge mansion. And my wife and I traveled all around the world. We were on vacation in Cancun and I went water skiing today. I fell and hit my head, and here I am. What a bummer! How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," the woman told him.

"Which word?" her husband asked.

" Czechoslovakia ."

Have an excellent weekend! :D
