DST Mayhem

DST Mayhem: "

imageDid you remember to set your clocks ahead over the weekend? Did you lose an hour of sleep too? Did you feel all discombobulated on Sunday?

Me too.

Everyone who hates Daylight Savings Time, raise your hand.

That’s what I thought! Me too!

So, what can we do about it? Personally, I think it’s silly to stay on DST for 9 months of the year – why bother going back to Standard Time at all then? Why do we need to keep messing with this craziness? I vote we end it, once and for all. Let’s face it, it was invented to help farmers because we had a large agrarian society and who knows why else. It’s silly now, and no longer necessary. I don’t know that it ever was. Some kind of political thing, some lobby group pushed for it during WWI. Did you know it was optional until 1966? Did you remember that Nixon had it last for 15 months starting in ‘74? I didn’t remember that one. Must have been overshadowed by the whole resignation thing.

Not everyone in the world does it, and those who do, don’t all do it at the same time. And did you know that most of Arizona has opted out of DST? How crazy must it get there during the 9 months of DST?

Really, changing the clocks forward and backward doesn’t “save” any time or energy. It just messes people up. I read something last year about there being more car accidents in the week after the time changes, because people haven’t adjusted to the sun being in a different place in the sky so quickly and are more likely to hit pedestrians. Who needs that? Who needs or wants the headache of adjusting their clocks at all?

How can we stop this madness? How can we make it end?

If you come up with anything, let me know. I’ll be trying to find that hour I lost.

OH! And don’t forget to change your blog settings too! Subtract an hour from whatever UTC it is now, if where you are participates in Daylight Savings Time. You can read this article from WordPress: Time to Spring Forward
